Some of the key reasons we love organic is that it means: no GMO, no synthetic fertilisers, no synthetic pesticides, the highest animal welfare standards of any international farming system and access to outdoors, no routine antibiotics, working with nature to increase biodiversity, and growing a diverse range of crops. It incorporates multiple regenerative practices across the whole farm within a legally regulated standard. Importantly, it is a certified and accredited supply chain. All our organic products are certified by the Soil Association.

Organic methods support soil conservation, along with carbon sequestration. An organic farm has on average 30% more biodiversity. We are extremely proud to work with, and be supported by a network of growers who follow organic farming practices, who grow the amazing grains that we mill into our organic flours.

Organic farming methods can help to slow down climate change; if Europe’s farmland all followed organic principles, agricultural emissions could drop by 40-50% by 2050. Organic farmers are encouraged to “close the loop” on their farms, limiting the use of imported resources and making use of what’s to hand. This means no artificial fertilisers and healthier soils.

ORGANIC STANDARDS

Organic standards apply to all aspects of organic manufacturing and production, storage and sales. The Soil Association Certification organic standards cover the UK’s organic and focuses on safeguarding the environment with additional standards protecting animal welfare and human health.

WHAT DOES THIS CERTIFICATION MEAN?

Certification is legally required to grow, process or market organic products, and all organic farms and companies are inspected by a certification body, at least once a year. This means when you see the organic symbol, you can trust that the food you buy has been made in a way that is better for people, animals and wildlife, and respects the natural environment.

Miller’s tip

Soft and lightly flavoured, millet is very good in gluten-free baking and can be substituted for maize where you need a corn-free recipe.

Description

A medium to fine gluten-free millet flour milled from the pale, golden seed of a grass, it is high in magnesium and has a lovely creamy texture. Combine it with white rice and tapioca starch for a basic blend.

Suitable for coeliacs.

Please note that this flour naturally has a shorter shelf life than our other flours, up to a maximum of two months from milling.
