Vegan paté


  • 1 cup dried black lentils
  • 1 sweet potato
  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 50ml vegetable oil
  • 2 tbs chopped parsley
  • 1 tbs soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp sweet paprika
  • 1/4 tsp chilli
  • 1/4 tsp ground coriander
  • salt and pepper


  1. Heat the oven to 220 degrees C
  2. Clean and pat dry the sweet potato, bake it in the oven for 45 minutes or until very soft
  3. Lower the oven temperature to 200 degrees C
  4. In the meantime, boil the lentils for 45 minutes
  5. When the potato is ready, cool it down and take the skin off
  6. Drain the lentils and put into a large bowl
  7. Add all the other ingredients (including the potato) and combine using a hand blender into a smooth paste
  8. Coat a loaf tin with vegetable oil and oats (small amounts not included above) and transfer the mixture into it
  9. Bake in the oven for 45 minutes or until brown, then cool down before eating
