How to make a sourdough starter from scratch, and how to convert a starter over to a different kind of flour – video tutorial

We’ve joined our Head Baker Chris in the test kitchen, to teach you how to make a sourdough starter from scratch. Many of you will be familiar with this already, but for those of you who want to try sourdough and haven’t known where to begin, hopefully this will help you on your way!

All you need is flour and water, and by the end of the week you’ll have created your own sourdough starter that should be ready to bake with. It takes roughly a week to get your sourdough starter strong enough from scratch.

Chris also shares his tips on converting your starter over to a different type of flour, for example, if you need a rye or spelt starter at short notice.
