Cheese and apple wholemeal picnic loaves


350g white flour

150g whole meal flour

1 teaspoon dried yeast

100g grated cheese

1 apple grated

350ml warm water

pinch of salt, oil for kneading


Mix all the dry ingredients, plus the apple and cheese. Add enough water to make a smooth dough then knead on a lightly oilded surface for 5 to 10 minutes.

Leave to rise 1-2 hours.

Knock back the dough, then form into 3 small loaves. Rise for 1 hour.

Bake a Gas Mark 5 for 45-50 minutes or until they sound hollow.

Enjoy warm or cold.
