Most recipes for so called 'Rye' bread include wheat flour. So, if you have a sensitivity to wheat gluten, these recipes are no good for you.
Cooking Oats for breakfast is a healthy alternative for many. With cooler weather over the autumn and winter, its best to move away from colder breakfasts to warm breakfasts like cooked steel cut / pin-head oats. Health Benefits: Pinhead Oats are nutritionally similar to other forms of oats. However pinhead Oats are different from quick or rolled Oats, in that the cooked pinhead oats release carbohydrates slowly into the bloodstream. While pinhead Oats take a bit longer to cook, their low glycemic index means that they do not cause any sharp increases in the blood sugar levels and you’ll stay full for a little while longer.

This traditional and delicious Porridge can be made using the organic pinhead oatmeal, a little sea salt and water. As you may know pinhead oatmeal has very thick, rough grains and the larger pinhead grains require a longer cooking time (even pre-soaking).

Despite the name this soft textured loaf isn’t actually sweet and goes very well with sharp cheese. It is wonderfully easy loaf to make with a limited knead technique but would, I think, adapt without fuss to your preferred style or a breadmaker.
Cranachan is a Scottish dessert which was originally made with crowdie cheese, oats, whisky, honey and fresh raspberries. More modern recipes have swapped the crowdie cheese for a simple whipped cream, although the recipe itself has remained much the same. Dessert is wonderful!
