Quick, simple and oh so yummy! This recipe can easily be halved, but it's best to make the whole batch because they store amazingly well in the freezer.
2 oz sugar
4 oz butter
6 oz flour
Stir flour and sugar to mix, then grate butter into the dry ingredients.
Knead until dough sticks together, forming a ball. Patience makes better biscuits but a SMALL splash of boiling water may help.
Roll out to desired thickness (around 1/8th inch) and cut out your favourite shapes.
Bake at Gas Mark 4 (180C/350F) for about 10 minutes, removing them from the oven just as they turn golden (before they turn brown).
Leave on tray for a couple of minutes to set and then carefully transfer to a wire rack until cold.
Store in an airtight tin.
