Discover the classic breads of Italy in this hands-on day of Italian baking.

Learn about “biga” the classic Italian starter which produces the delicious flavour and open porous texture of many Italian breads. Try your hand at focaccia, ciabatta, grissini, pizza and more.

Suitable for all levels of baking ability.

Students will all receive a pot of biga (starter) to take away with them.


No. of places per course: 6

Price: includes light refreshments and lunch.

All ingredients, equipment and recipes are provided by Shipton Mill.

The course starts at 9:30am but try and arrive by 9:15am.  The day will finish around 4:00pm.

You may cancel at anytime but if we are unable to fill the place then we will be unable to offer a refund. So please give us as much notice as possible.

Location: This course takes place in the test bakery at our Frampton Mill site in the village of Frampton-on-Severn, postcode GL2 7HE (click here for Google Map).

Due to Shipton Mill being a working mill visitors must wear suitable clothing (no shorts or skirts with exposed skin) and footwear (no heels or open toed shoes).

How can I keep an eye on my orders?

Your orders are stored on our system - you can save your basket to come back later and you can re-fill your basket with the items from your previous orders. Log in to My Shipton Mill to find out more.

How should I store my flour and how long will it keep?

Ideally flour should be kept in a sealed container in a cool dry place with stable temperature. Typically white flour has a shelf life from milling of 12 months. Wholemeal flour will be good for 6 months. More ...
