Grannys Scones

Ingredients

40gms Butter

1 medium egg

1 lvl tblsp goldensyrup

300mls buttermilk

1 lb plain flour

1 tsp bicarbonate of soda

1 heaped tsp cream of tartar

1 heaped tsp salt

Method

Heat oven to highest temperature place large baking sheet inside

Melt butter and syrup.

Mix egg and buttermilk

Put dry ingredients in bowl

Add both wet mixtures to bowl

Stir with large metal spoon

This will produce a wet sticky mixture so you need to put lots of flour onto the work surface

Empty mix onto flour

Gently roll out to ¾ inch thick

Cut up to 16 pieces

Remove hot baking sheet from oven and place scones onto sheet

Put in oven for 7-8 mins until golden

Cool on wire rack
