Home grown woollens
|
Raised on the hillsides of Gloucestershire, spun in Cornwall and woven in Wales, we’ve produced an incredible home grown blanket smelling sweetly of wool. In its own natural colours, apart from a slight touch of blue running through it, the Shipton Mill Woollen Throws and Knee Rugs are made from fleeces sheared from our flock of Suffolk and Hebridean sheep at Shipton Mill in 2010. The fleeces were processed and spun into yarn by the Natural Fibre Company in Cornwall, chosen because the wool was produced to organic processing standards by Sue Blacker’s team. At Sue's recommendation, the yarn was spun into cloth on Victorian looms by Raymond at Melin Teifi, who is based at the National Wool Museum in Wales. The muted colours were left undyed, but a small amount of blue yarn was found to add to the basic colours, producing a beautiful and subtle check. Cutting and washing has softened the fabric, and it’s finished with a traditional fringe. |
